Winter Work on the Farm

Winter Work on the Farm

At Cotswold Lavender, January is a time for getting those maintenance jobs done around the farm. Charlie is outside today repairing this gateway.  The wooden gate posts had rotted through so they are being replaces with metal posts, the dry stone wall will also need some repairing.  The dry stone walls get damaged when people climb over them, so a bit of fencing on the inside helps prevent the walls being knocked down.

It is also a good time of year for planting bare root hedges, they need to be planted when the plants are dormant. It's a good time of year for us to get all these types of outdoor jobs done when there is not much field work to do.
